My name is Becky Verner and I'm excited to be your child's 7th grade social studies teacher! I hope you're looking forward to this year as much as I am!

This is my 24th year in education. I've taught in Vicksburg, MS (my hometown), and in Millersville and Nashville in TN. I've even taught at the Tennessee State Museum in my position as Curator of Education. I've worked with all grade levels, but enjoy middle school the most! My favorite subject is history as there is so much to learn from the past--especially how it impacts and influences our world today. I especially look forward to teaching 7th graders how to use critical and historial thinking just like historians do.

My educational background includes:

*B.S. in Elementary Education, K-8, MS State
     University; Starkville, MS 1994
*M.A. in History, Middle TN State University;
     Murfreesboro, TN 2006
*M.A. in Education Supervision & Administration,

University of Phoenix; Franklin, TN 2010

Some of my favorite things include:

*Watching History Channel documentaries
*Visiting museums
*Spending time with my family (my husband, Steve, and my 14 year old daughter, Riley who is a freshman at Hume-Fogg)
*Dachshunds (I have a long-haired doxie named Weasley in honor of Ron Weasley from the Harry Potter series.)
*Watching Big Bang Theory
Mississippi State University Bulldogs
*Dak Prescott (MS State alum & QB for Dallas Cowboys)
*Black & white cows
*New Orleans Saints
*80s music (Big Hair bands especially)
*Hot peppermint tea (NOT a coffee drinker)
*Red Velvet cake
*Chocolate-covered almonds (but not dark chocolate)

Some of my pet peeves include:

*Misuse of the word "like" in conversation (along with other filler words)
*Giving up without trying
*Cold weather
*Ole Miss
*Tom Brady & the New England Patriots

I very much look forward to getting to know and work with your students!
