A voice impairment is an excess or significant deficiency in pitch, intensity, or quality resulting from pathological conditions or inappropriate use of the vocal mechanism.

Rules for Good Voice Habits

1.  Don't talk over classroom or lunchroom noise

2.  Instead of shouting, raise your hand or touch the person to get their attention

3.  Don't talk over the sound of the bell or announcements

4.  Do wait until someone looks at you before you talk

5.  Try not to interrupt. Wait.

6.  Whistle for a pet instead of shouting

7.  Use your voice as little as possible when you have a sore throat or cold

8.  Don't strain or overuse your voice during ballgames

9.  Children, especially boys, should not force their voice higher or louder than normal.  During voice change, boys should not sing until the new voice is established.

10.  Pay attention to your voice on the playground.  Is it too loud?
