Dear Parents,
I would like to welcome you and your child to the second grade. I know that this is going to be an exciting and successful school year for your child.
To be successful, each student needs to accept responsibility for his/her work, feel respected, and set short and long-term goals for the school year. At the begining of the school year, each of you will receive a packet that contains the “ABC’s of a Successful School Year,” which are expectations I have for all students. Please review these with your child.
I also ask that you take a moment to write a brief letter telling me about your child. I know that my teaching must begin with helping all children come together into a learning community. This community is made up of unique individuals, each with his/her learning styles, interests, history, and hopes. I ask that you take a moment to help me get to know your child effectively. I would like to know how your child thinks and plays. I would also like to understand how you view your child as a learner and individual. Some questions you may wish to answer include: What is your child’s personality like? As a parent, what do you feel are things that are important for me to know? What are your child’s interests? What are your child’s reading habits? Etc.
I hold high expectations for all my students and believe together with your support, we can make this year a success for your child. Thank you for your support. I look forward to working with you and your child this 2010-2011 school year.
Thank you,
Ms. Sellers
