Dear Parents and Students
Welcome to the Eighth Grade and my math class (Accelerated Math II or Eighth Grade Mathematics). I hope that this year will be a successful year for you as you are completing your final year at Northview Middle School in preparation for entering high school.
This is my 28th year teaching in Sevier County and it is my fourth year of teaching on the Eighth Grade Team at Northview Middle School. I am highly qualified/certified to teach grades 1-6 and 7th thru 12th grade Mathematics. I am also certified to teach Vocational Home Economics. I have been married to my husband Dave for 24 years and we have two children and one grandchild.
To the parents, I want to thank you in advance for your support during this year. Communication between parents and teachers is very important. Progress reports will be sent out every three weeks and report cards every six weeks. If you have any concerns please contact the school at 933-7985 and leave a message. I will return your call as soon as possible. If you prefer to contact me by email my address is rebeccamccarty@sevier.org.
Grading procedures are outlined in the student agendas page. Please note that homework and classwork may be graded for content, correct-ness, or completeness and count for 65% of each six weeks grade. Students have the option to correct homework but it must be turned in within 3 days after the assignment is given. Quizzes, tests and exams will be graded for correctness and count for 35% of each six weeks grade.
Please take time to read through the general information section of your student’s agenda, my classroom rules and syllabuses. Please contact me if you have any questions.
Thank you,
Mrs. Rebecca O. McCarty

Classroom Rules
1. Always bring your textbook, agenda, supplies and notebook to class.
2. No gum, food, or drink in class. The only exception is bottled water.
3. Grooming is to take place in the restroom and not the classroom(i.e.putting on make-up or brushing hair).
4. Keep your desk and area around your desk litter free. This includes no writing on
the desk.
5. It is important that you turn in homework completed and on time if you are to pass
the class.
6. Respect for others (classmates, teachers, custodians, teaching assistants, etc.) is
necessary for a good learning environment. This works both ways.
