George's Secret Key to the Universe
Parents,
We are reading George’s Secret Key to the Universe in Science. Your child was assigned a copy of the book to keep at home. We have a class set for use in the classroom. Please encourage your child to be gentle with the book as we hope to use them for years to come.
We have many exciting activities planned to do with the children as we read. Each night your child will be required to read approximately 20 pages, including weekend days. It is very important for your child to read daily and to not fall behind. On the reverse of this letter is the reading schedule. We may need to make minor adjustments, but we plan to keep to the schedule as closely as possible. Students will be quizzed periodically to check for reading and understanding.
Students will also use
www.kidblog.org as part of their assignments. Questions will be posted on the blog and students will post their answers on their personal pages. We will show the students how to access and use the website in class. Students will be given a log in and password to access the website. The sticker with this information will be placed in their agendas.
We hope this will be an enjoyable experience for the students as they work on reading and writing about science concepts. George is an exciting story, but is also filled with information about astronomy and physics in kid-friendly language.
