About The Teacher

Miss Jamie Jenkins is a proud magna cum laude alumna of Clark Atlanta University in Atlanta, Georgia with a Bachelor's of Arts in History. Miss Jenkins is a native of Dallas, Texas where she was born the oldest of three children to a strong teenaged single mother. Always pushing for perfection, she obtained a full academic scholarship to CAU, becoming the first in her family to attend and graduate from college, as well as the first in her immediate family to graduate from high school. While attending CAU, Miss Jenkins served under several leadership roles including NAACP President, Orientation Guide, Miss NAACP, 2nd Attendant to Miss Clark Atlanta University and member of many honor societies, including Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society and Golden Key National Honour Society.

This Texas native began her teaching career in Atlanta, Georgia at Westlake High School, where she also served as the Pageant Coordinator for Westlake's Mister and Miss Westlake Pageant and sponsor of the Westlake Royal Court. As an alumna, Miss Jenkins is an avid supporter of the the Teach For America movement, which aims to close the acheivement gap that is currently failing so many of our country's public school students, and is a member of the Leadership for Educational Equity organization.

Miss Jenkins currently teaches Global History and Geography at the new Democracy Prep Charter School High School in Harlem, New York.  She serves as the Social Studies Department Facilitator and advisor to the Key Club.  Her Master's of Education with a specialization in National Board Certification is in progress with expected completion in the summer of 2010.
