Folders and Notebooks
This folder will contain homework, corrections and notes for home. Everything should come out of the folder and left home except completed homework, corrected papers and notes for the teacher or office.
This folder will contain a small book or a chapter book. Students are asked to read the assigned book or chapter with someone at home. If the book is difficult, you can read it to your child. Put book back into the folder each night so it can be brought back to school the following day. There will occasionally be written homework in the folder as well. Please sign off on the reading checklist each night after your child completes the assignments. Everything that goes home in the reading folder should also be returned to school in the folder.
There will be a spelling pre-test every Monday and a post-test on Friday. The word list will be put in the agenda each Monday. Practice with your child reading and spelling the words each night throughout the week. I would suggest practicing a few words each night, depending on the difficulty of the words. Challenge words are optional. Encourage your child to try the challenge words if the basic words are learned quickly. The nightly written homework assignment will be listed in the agenda. Please initial the agenda when homework is complete.
Second grade eats lunch at 11:40. We will have a working snack in the afternoon. Snack is optional. If you send in a snack for your child, please make it a healthy one that can be eaten within 10- 15 minutes.
Birthday snacks are welcome! We usually have birthday snacks in the afternoon. You may bring treats in anytime before 1:00 on the birthday. Please keep the treats simple (nothing that needs to be cut) and please do not send in drinks.
Please do not send birthday invitations to school. It is a school policy that invitations are sent outside of school.
Scholastic Book Order
Every month your child will receive a book order form from Scholastic. I encourage you to promote reading at home with books of interest to your child. The book selections are often signifcantly less expensive than you would find in a book store. Your book purchases also help accumulate classroom bonus points. Points are used to get free books and resources for the classroom.
