It is a privilege to have the opportunity to teach young athletes the fundamentals and techniques to be successful in Track and Field here at Heritage Middle School. Heritage Middle School has dedicated itself in developing students who demonstrate academic excellence that model appropriate behaviors in and out of the classroom. If it is your goal and desire to be apart of the Track and Field Team, schoolwork and positive behavior should be your priorities at Heritage Middle School. We are committed to helping you achieve the following while participating on the Heritage Middle School Track and Field Team:
1. Build character by stressing hard work and discipline.
2. Teaching the positive values needed for being successful in life such as respect and pride.
3. Preparing dedicated athletes to participate on a high school Track & Field Team by teaching the fundamentals of the sport.
4. Helping athletes develop friendships and experience success.
5. Our Motto: Self-Discipline: Demonstrating hard work controlling your emotions, words, actions, impulses and desires. Giving your best in all situations.
Try-outs: February 22nd, 23rd, 24th, & 25th : Make sure you bring proper attire to engage in physical activity. The following will suffice:

Monday, February 22nd: 60-meter, 100-meter, & Shot
(Only 7th graders are permitted to run the 60-meter) |
|
|
|
Tuesday, February 23rd: 200-meter & 400-meter
|
|
|
|
Wednesday, February 24th: ½ Mile (800-meter) & Mile (1600-meter) Try-outs are from 3:30-5:00-No activity bus –must provide own transportation.

Thursday, February 25th : High Jump & Long Jump

Sport Physical needs to be submitted no later than Wednesday, February 17th, 2010.
|
Track and Field participation requirements:
ü Students in grades 7 – 8 (middle schools) participating in interscholastic activity must carry student accident insurance available through the system or provide evidence of comparable coverage.
ü All students participating in interscholastic activity must have been in attendance for at least eighty-five (85%) of the previous semester.
ü Passing grades must be attained in language arts and mathematics. In addition to the core course requirements, at least fifty percent of all remaining courses must be passed.
ü All students participating in interscholastic athletic activity must receive a medical examination once every 365 days by a duly licensed physician, nurse practitioner or physician’s assistant.
The skills gained by competing in activities such as track and field can promote lifetime fitness and enjoyment. Students of all skill levels and experience are encouraged to be a part of our team as we emphasize one’s participation and personal improvement as an important addition to our school’s athletic program.
