The 5th grade classes completed a mixed media drawing and a Wilderness Wildlife Week drawing.  Now we are looking at Pop Art Sculptures by Claus Oldenburg.  Students will create a larger version of an everyday object (Pop Culture) in a three dimensional form.

The 6th grade classes are learning about Movement, one of the seven Principles of Design.  They are focusing on showing movement in a work of art using color and value.

The 7th grade classes are illustrating a poem by Hart Crane, To Brooklyn Bridge.  Students looked at two versions of The Brooklyn Bridge in art.  One is an abstract painting by Joesph Stella, and the other is a photograph taken by Walker Evans.  Students may choose between paint and charcoal for the final finish.

The 8th grade classes are taking a look at Winslow Homer's painting, The Veteran in a New Field.  They will be illustrating the poem Come Up from the Fields Father by Walt Whitman.  Both of these works take place in the fall and focus on the everyday lives of soldiers.  Students will paint their illustrations, working on their technique.
