"Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which
ones to keep." Scott Adams

Hello, I am Amanda Baynes, and my passion is art.  I married Drew Baynes on June 6, 2009 and we live in Seymour with our black lab, Porter.  I am a graduate of East Tennessee State University, and began my teaching career here at Pi Beta Phi in February of 2008. I assisted with basketball cheerleading during the 2008-09 basketball season. I am looking forward to working with a new squad in 2009-10.

My philosophy of education; It is my belief that as a teacher I have the ability to open a child's mind to the many wonders of life and shape their character.  Learning should and can be fun.  The Art classroom at Pi Beta Phi is a creative, inviting, and fun learning environment, built to encourage the development of students' artisitc abilities and talents. Creating art influences a child's motor skills and builds confidence.  It is my hope that my students will be able to use something I taught them in their everyday lives.

Here is a quote from Albert Einstein (1934) which is a good example of my philosophy of education...
"My dear children: I rejoice to see you before me today, happy youth of a sunny and fortunate land. Bear in mind that the wonderful things that you learn in your schools are the work of many generations, produced by enthusiastic effort and infinite labour in every country of the world. All this is put into your hands as your inheritance in order that you may receive it, honour it, and add to it, and one day faithfully hand it on to your children..."

I have developed my curriculum based upon the Tennessee Department of Education Standards for Visual Arts. I also incorporate the Elements of Art and Principles of Design into lessons to provide our students with a strong foundation in art education.

We are blessed with the supportive community of Gatlinburg and a hard working PTA at Pi Phi. Thank you to those who put time and effort into the quality of our school.
