Dear Parents,
Welcome to the 2009-2010 school year! I hope all of you had a great summer. My summer was interesting I started my masters and I am excited to implement what I have learned to better serve my students.
A large focus in 1st grade is to establish a solid foundation for your child in Reading. We work diligently to form strong phonics skills and sight word vocabulary. Fluency and comprehension are achieved through listening to stories, plenty of practice reading orally and answering questions about the text.
I say “we” because your involvement and support is so important to your child’s success. Your child will receive homework Monday-Thursday. The front page of Phonics will be completed during school. The back page is similar to the front and reinforces the same skills learned in school that day. Math homework will be front and back. Please review your child’s homework binder daily.
In your child’s binder you will have a list of the first 400 words students need to learn by the end of first grade. Your child’s binder holds important information so please check their binder everyday.
The temperature in the classroom is sometimes quite cool. You may send a jacket or sweater with your child.
If you have any questions please feel free to call me at 995-4704 or email me at monalizama@leeschools.net
Sincerely,
Ms. Agramonte
